Monday, February 20th is Presidents' Day

Until 1971, both February 12th and February 22nd were observed as Federal public holidays to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and George Washington (February 22). In 1971 President Richard Nixon proclaimed one single Federal public holiday, Presidents' Day, to be observed on the 3rd Monday of February, honoring all past Presidents of the United States of America.

Precious Metals Dealers Raise Concerns

cash-for-gold

Westwood/N.A.I.L.E.M. leader Donna Neill, seeing the prolific explosion of gold dealers in her area and knowing that some are outlets for stolen jewelry and other property, approached Arizona State Senator Michele Reagan to Sponsor S.B. 1221: “Precious items dealers; permanent residence” bill.

The bill requires the “dealer” only conduct business at a “defined permanent place of business” as listed on their sales tax license. In addition it requires each dealer to keep records of the transaction for six months and to provide the sellers information to law enforcement within a week.  Violation is a class one misdemeanor.

Ballistic Vest Sought For Independent Testing

concealable1

On November 26, 2011, Officer Anthony Daley, 9190, was critically injured when he was shot in the line of duty.  Due to his injuries resulting from what may have been a ballistic vest failure, PLEA, in partnership with the Phoenix Police Department, is seeking a ballistic vest of the same make, model, and preferably lot number, as Officer Daley was wearing in order to perform further testing.  This would ensure the vests comply with NIJ standards and are safe for use.
