Mayor Gordon: SB1057 or SB1070?

Mayor Gordon and SB1057 SB1070
It appears that Mayor Gordon’s lack of confidence in Phoenix Police Officers along with a struggle to understand the similarities between Phoenix Police Department policy and SB1070 continues. Just as alarming, it seems Mayor Gordon was unaware of the successful two-year test drive of SB1070 under the revised immigration policy as presented by Chief Harris.
Over the past two years, the current Phoenix immigration policy mirrors the basic intent of SB1070 – if an officer has reasonable suspicion to believe a person is in the country illegally, and that person is connected with a crime, discretionary contact can be made with ICE for verification and disposition. Victims and witnesses, as in the current immigration policy, are NOT the focus of SB1070. Booking, as in the current immigration policy, is NOT required under SB1070 – a person can be dropped off at ICE.
The results of the two-year test drive of SB1070 – over 3000 illegal aliens deported, with NO additional costs, with NO additional crimes, with NO drain on manpower, and without a SINGLE civil rights, racial profiling, or biased policing complaint. The past success of Phoenix Police Officers and law enforcement throughout Arizona is a reasonable indicator of future success.
